Summary
How to access audiology for adults:
1. Referral via GP / Health Professional
Those persons aged 16 and over, who do not currently have an NHS hearing aid can be referred to the audiology service, directly by their GP or other Health Professional involved in their care.
2. Self-referral to wider audiology services
A self-referral audiology service has been developed to provide patients aged 16 plus with an all-encompassing advanced audiology service that can address your ear-related concerns sooner and closer to home. You can make an appointment with an Advanced Audiology Practitioner who can advise, treat or refer to the appropriate department during your initial visit. Appointments for the wider Adult Audiology services are offered at Ystradgynlais Community Hospital, Bronllys Community Hospital, Llandrindod Wells Memorial Hospital, and Knighton Community Hospital.
You can access the service in one of the following ways:
- Use the online, digital PTHB Audiology Service Self-Referral Form.
- Download and complete a digital copy of the PTHB Audiology Service Self-Referral Form - Dowloadable document.
- Pick up and complete a paper copy of the self-referral form from your GP surgery and return to the Audiology service.
3. Patients already known to the audiology service
Patients who already have hearing aids can directly access the audiology service with no need for a GP referral. If you already have NHS hearing aids and wish to be reassessed, you can contact audiology directly.

Audiology services for adults within the Powys Teaching Health Board - Mid and South Powys area are based at Breconshire War Memorial Hospital and Llandrindod Wells War Memorial Hospital. Audiology services are carried out from Ystradgynlais Hospital, however, there are currently no walk-in hearing aid repair clinics running. How to access audiology for children:
1. Referral via GP / Health Professional
If you are concerned about a child’s hearing, audiology accepts referrals from GPs, Health Visitors, School Health Nurses and other Health professionals who can make a referral to the service, as necessary.
2. Patients already known to the audiology service
If your child is already under the audiology service and you are concerned there has been a change in hearing, you can contact audiology directly.

Audiology Services for children within the Powys Teaching Health Board - Mid and South Powys area are based at Brecon War Memorial Hospital. The service may be able to offer your child an appointment at Llandrindod Wells or Ystradgynlais Hospitals. How to access services such as hearing aid repairs, replacement batteries and lost hearing aids:
For replacement hearing aid batteries, in the first instance, contact the audiology service by telephone, text or email advising whether you wear one or two hearing aids, and what colour stickers are on your batteries. These services are conducted by post, where possible. You can also use an online form to order replacement batteries and hearing aid consumbles.
If you have lost or broken your hearing aids, contact the audiology service by telephone, text or email.
Note, there is a cost associated with replacing lost hearing aids.
