Respiratory Medicine - Hywel Dda University Local Health Board

Two types of waiting lists are displayed:

  • The first is the waiting time for your first outpatient appointment. This is measured from when the referral by your GP or other medical practitioner is received by the hospital to when you have your first appointment. Your appointment may be face to face, online or by telephone.
  • The second waiting time is your total wait from when you were referred by your GP or other medical practitioner (so including the wait for your first appointment) to when you start your treatment.

To help you understand how long people are currently waiting we have provided two figures:

  • The first is the middle point (median) of the waiting list if all the waits are ordered from the shortest to the longest. This is the current median waiting time. Half of the patient pathways on the waiting list are waiting less than this and half are currently waiting longer.
  • The second is the point at which we expect 90% of patient pathways to have been seen or treated by. 10% of patient pathways will wait longer than this.

In some cases, median waits for a first outpatient appointment may be longer than the median for the overall referral to treatment pathway. This may seem surprising, but can happen when, for example, some urgent pathways progress quickly to treatment bringing the overall median down.

Please contact your local health board if you have any queries - do not ring 111 as your query will not be resolved on this line.
