    Care During Pregnancy

Antenatal care is delivered at by midwifery teams across the health board and you will be assigned a midwife once registering your pregnancy.  You may see an obstetrician if you have pre-existing medical conditions, develop complications in your pregnancy or require additional support during birth. A midwife will care for you alongside an obstetrician.

You can contact the antenatal clinics on the telephone numbers:

    - Glangwilli General Hospital Antenatal Ward: 01267 221735

    - Bronglais General Hospital Midwife Led Unit: 01970 635633

    - Withybush General Hospital Midwife Led Unit: 01437 773306

What to do if I am experiencing complications?

If you have a pregnancy related concern, you should contact your local midwife as soon as possible.  You can contact 01267 248682 in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy with any complications.  You can contact the consultant led unit on 01267 227591 or the midwife led unit on 01267 248640 in Glangwilli General Hospital.  You can also contact the Midwife Led Units in Bronglais General Hospital and Withybush General Hospital but be aware that you may be redirected to Carmarthen.  See the health board website for more details or telephone to discuss.

    Where can I give birth?

Your midwife or consultant will discuss your options with you and help you in deciding.

At Glangwili Hospital, there is a midwife led unit for those who have straightforward pregnancies.  They also have a doctor led labour ward for those who need extra care from our doctors and midwives. If your baby is born after 32 weeks and needs extra care, they can look after them in a Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).  You can get in touch with the Midwife Led Unit on 01267 248640 or the Consultant Labour Ward on 01267 227825.

At Bronglais Hospital, there is a midwife led unit for those who have straightforward pregnancies.  They also have a doctor led labour ward for those who need extra care from our doctors and midwives. There may be times where they are unable to look after you or your baby in Aberystwyth and you will need to have your baby in Carmarthen.  Some of the reasons for this could be if they know that your baby will need special or neonatal care before it is born, if your pregnancy is a bit more complicated such as you are expecting twins or more, if you have insulin dependent diabetes, or gestational diabetes controlled with insulin, or you go into labour before 37 weeks.  You can discuss this with the Midwife Led Unit on 01970 635633.

At Withybush Hospital, we have a midwife led unit for women who have straightforward pregnancies.  We have doctor led antenatal clinics for those women who need extra care and will be having their babies at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen.  You can contact the Midwife Led Unit on 01437 773306.

In the event of your baby being born and needing extra care we have a neonatal room where we can take your baby until they can be taken to a more specialised unit.
