    Summary

    Finding out you are pregnant

    You can register your pregnancy online via Swansea Bay Health Board's Pregnancy Referral to Maternity Services form.

    For Swansea residents – when you have found out you are pregnant, call your GP surgery and you will be allocated a named midwife who will be based within your GP surgery.

    For Neath Port Talbot residents – when you have found out you are pregnant, call 07989 717748 between 8.00am and 1.00pm, Monday to Thursday, and a midwife will be in touch with you within the upcoming weeks.

    Care During Pregnancy

    Antenatal care is delivered at by midwifery teams across the health board and you will be assigned a midwife once registering your pregnancy.  The midwifery teams can be contacted on the following numbers:

    You may see an obstetrician if you have pre-existing medical conditions, develop complications in your pregnancy or require additional support during birth. A midwife will care for you alongside an obstetrician. 

    What to do if I am experiencing complications? 

    You can contact your midwife if you are experiencing any complications and they will be able to advise further.  For urgent issues, women who are 20 weeks+ should contact either Singleton Assessment Unit on: 01792 286111 or Neath Port Talbot Birthing Centre on: 01639 862193.  You can also contact the maternity helpline on 01639 862216 to discuss any concerns.

    Patients presenting with ectopic pregnancy or severe symptoms should be referred to either Singleton or Princess of Wales Hospitals.

    Where can I give birth? 

    Your midwife or consultant will discuss your options with you and help you in deciding.  Options include:

    - Home birth

    - Free standing midwifery led area at Neath Port Talbot Hospital 

    - Consultant led birthing area at Singleton Hospital

    - Alongside Midwifery Led Unit at Singleton Hospital
