What happens next

If an ambulance responds to your 999 call, and you need to go to hospital, the ambulance can take the patient to hospital.

One person can travel with the patient in the back of an ambulance.

Community First Responder volunteers cannot take patients to hospital.

If a Community First Responder or a rapid response vehicle comes, they can wait with you or the patient until an ambulance arrives.

The ambulance will take you to the place that can give you the most suitable help.

(This might not be the nearest place).

Sometimes you or the patient will not need to go to hospital. Sometimes the patient can stay at home.

We might say that you or the patient should go to see your usual doctor.
