Exclusions to the Minor Injury Unit
- Any medical issues such as allergic reactions, sore throats, infections, rashes, etc.
- Any minor illnesses.
- Wounds which are post-operative, maternity related or needlestick injury.
- Head injuries where the person is unconscious, has neuro complications or the person is on blood thinners.
- Swelling without injury, e.g., possible DVT or gout or aggravated arthritis.
What will be seen at the Minor Injury Unit
- Minor injuries and bites, cuts, or lacerations.
- Minor burns and scalds.
- Uncomplicated fractures which require plaster.
- Minor head injuries (if no complications outlined in exclusions).
- Soft tissue injuries e.g., sprains and bruises.
- Wound infections and superficial foreign bodies.
